Driver of pickup truck shot in head by passenger, police say

Shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. in 900 block of E. Houston St

SAN ANTONIO – A driver of a pickup truck is recovering at an area hospital after being shot in the head by his passenger early Wednesday morning, San Antonio police said.

The shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. at a Days Inn in the 900 block of East Houston Street.

Police said the 36-year-old victim picked up his passenger on the city's South Side and they were heading on Interstate 37 towards downtown when an argument ensued. The passenger, possessing a pistol, fired at the driver's head, police said.

The victim, attempting to shield himself, tried to block the shot and the round went through the man's hand before grazing his head and shattering the driver side window, police said.

Following the shooting, the passenger got out of the vehicle and ran. The victim drove to the hotel to call police.

Police said the victim and the suspect knew each other. The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
