SEGUIN - Authorities are investigating a fire that killed two people and a dog as a murder-suicide, the Seguin Police Department announced Monday.
Firefighters were called to a trailer home near the Love's Travel Stop of Interstate 10 West and FM 477 early Monday morning after a passerby noticed the fire.
Police said a man in his 60s intentionally set fire to the home, killing himself and his terminally ill partner.
Police officers found what they believe is a suicide note placed on the fence outside of the mobile home. They believe at least one of the people killed in the fire suffered from "significant personal health issues."
"Based on the note -- some of the contents that's in the note -- we think that her terminal illness, we believe she may have had a terminal illness," Deputy Chief Bruce Ure said. "We believe that's gonna play a huge role in his motive of -- we believe that he ended up taking her life."
At least five agencies responded to the fire, including the Seguin Fire Department, Seguin Police Department, Seguin Fire Marshal’s Office, Marion VFD and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities are conducting a thorough search of the home.
The people inside the home have not yet been identified.
