Insurance company ranks Bexar County high for wind, hail claims

Bexar County 2 out of top 25 in Texas

SAN ANTONIO – Allstate Insurance has ranked Bexar County number two in the state when it comes to the number of hail and wind damage claims.

The data compiled over the last five years also shows Bexar County rounding out in the top 20 for frequency of lightning claims, according to a news release.

Storm victims hit by hail and recent tornadoes are still in recovery mode, including Linda Drive resident Stephanie DeLorenzo, who expects to be able to move back home in June.

"We were not hurt. That's the main thing," DeLorenzo said. "So we were very, very blessed, and when I get my house back, we're celebrating."

The San Antonio area saw two major weather events in less than a year. Aside from the February tornadoes, there was a hail storm last April.

Severe weather can hit anywhere in Texas at any time, so it's important to have a safety plan in place to help protect yourself and your belongings.

Allstate recommends cleaning out your garage and yard to reduce the risk of damage during a storm, knowi

ng the prepared areas to take shelter in case of a tornado and taking stock of your belongings so you have an inventory if anything is lost or damaged.

"I had no clue what to do, whatsoever," DeLorenzo said.

If you're ever caught off guard after the storm, the insurance company says it's a good idea to make temporary repairs to prevent further damage, document damage and research contractors after alerting your homeowners insurance company.
