The community was able to ask questions, provide feedback and become a part of the historic event at the meeting.

“This is a major, major project. We expect that its restoration, and the creation of a visitors’ center and the plaza will take several hundred million dollars over multiple years to construct,” said Sheryl Sculley, San Antonio city manager.

Sculley said a 2012 bond include $1 million for Alamo restoration. The City Council also approved another $16 million to be used for the Alamo in 2016 and 2017.

While there will still be private fundraising efforts, the city plans to ask for about $10 million to $20 million more in the next bond program. Residents would eventually have to vote on that.
