A shooting suspect is dead after jumping off a highway overpass early Sunday morning, officials said.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff's office, deputies, along with San Antonio police, were actively looking for the suspect in a deadly shooting in far Northwest Bexar County. Around 7 p.m. Saturday, deputies received a call for a shooting on Hazy Hollow Drive and Interstate Highway 10 West, near Ralph Fair Road.

Deputies discovered a man shot and killed lying next to a vehicle at the entrance of Scenic Oaks, a gated subdivision. A woman inside that same vehicle was shot and taken to University Hospital.

Deputies said the suspected shooter fled the scene and was tracked down by San Antonio police around midnight at the upper level bridge at IH-10 and Culebra Road.

"Despite hours of negotiations, the suspect jumped from the upper level bridge to his death at approximately 3:30 a.m.", said BSCO.

The upper and lower levels of the highway from Culebra Road to Fresno were closed to all traffic until 5:45 a.m.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner will release the name of the suspect once family has been notified.

BSCO continues to investigate the homicide.
