SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio is known to host a good party, but come 2018, the city will host the biggest party yet: Its 300th birthday.

On Tuesday night, the Tricentennial Commission hosted a party on the rooftop of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center parking lot to announce what is to come next year.

Asia Ciaravino, chief operating officer for the tricentennial said there is a year of parties to come in 2018, including two huge concerts for the city and legacy projects, showcasing the arts and culture of the city.

"There's a lot of theater, entertainment, dance so much is going to happen in 2018 with the Final Four, the rodeo, everything will be branded under the tricentennial," Ciaravino said. "And everything will be happening right here."

Elia Segura has lived in San Antonio all her life and when she heard there was going to be a "kick-off" to a year of celebrating her hometown, she said she had to come.

"I'm really looking forward to attending all the celebrations that they will be having," said Segura. "And, it will be a great experience to be able to attend those."

Organizers hope each event will make a mark on San Antonio for years to come.

"Whatever culture events that occurs, surrounding the tricentennial of 2018, it's going to impact the economic development of our city," said C. Leroy Cavazos, vice president of government affairs for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "It will set a bar on how other cities across this great nation will celebrate their 300."
