Michaels signs a deal with Apollo to go private

Under the terms of the agreement, approved by Michaels' board, Apollo will begin a tender offer to buy shares for $22 each in cash. Company executives said that by going private, Michaels will have the financial flexibility to invest and improve its retail and online business. The deal includes a 25-day go-shop period which lets Michaels to solicit and evaluate other offers and to terminate the deal for a better proposal.

Beth Van Duyne, of Texas, shot and killed himself outside of the Irving Republicanโs home, police said Thursday. The congresswoman was inside her home when she heard a gunshot Wednesday afternoon, looked outside and saw Richard Christian Dillardโs body, Officer Robert Reeves said. He also was a public affairs officer for the Texas State Guard. Iโm devastated for her, his daughter and grandchildren, we are praying for Chrisโs family and loved ones and ask that everyone please respect their privacy,โ Van Duyne, a former Irving mayor, added.

AdThis will be the 11th season in a row with the 10 Big 12 teams playing round-robin league schedules with nine conference games. The first conference game is Sept. 18, when Baylor plays at Kansas. Every other team, except TCU, will open league play on Sept. 25.

IRVING, Texas โ A federal jury on Thursday found a man guilty of helping his brother evade arrest for over 12 years after being accused of fatally shooting his two teen daughters in Texas. Yassein Abdulfatah Said, 59, was found guilty of conspiracy to conceal a person from arrest, concealing a person from arrest and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, federal prosecutors said. AdThe sisters were found shot multiple times in their fatherโs taxicab outside a hotel in the Dallas suburb of Irving. Prosecutors said Yassein Said and Islam Said harbored Yaser Said in an apartment in the Dallas suburb of Bedford and later in a home in Justin. Islam Yaser-Abdel Said, 32, of Irving, pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to conceal a person from arrest, concealing a person from arrest and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, federal prosecutors said. Islam Said's father, Yaser Said, was arrested in August in Justin, a small city 36 miles (58 kilometers) northwest of Dallas. The sisters were found shot multiple times in their father's taxicab outside a motel in the Dallas suburb of Irving.

Texas man drowns in southeastern Oklahoma river
EAGLETOWN, Okla. โ A Texas man has drowned in the Mountain Fork River in southeastern Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Pedro Segura, 58, of Irving, Texas, drowned in the river near Eagletown, about 190 miles (305 kilometers) southeast of Oklahoma City, after getting off an inner tube shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, according to an OHP report. Segura was on an inner tube that was tethered by rope to another inner tube when the rope detached. Segura got off the tube to pull the second inner tube to shore, but disappeared in about 10 feet of water, the report said. The report said Segura was not wearing a personal flotation device.
Police: Texas officers fatally shoot man who shot his wife
IRVING, Texas Police in a Dallas suburb shot and killed a man Saturday after he reportedly shot his wife and opened fire on the officers, a police spokeswoman said. Officers in Irving responded to a call before 10 a.m. from a woman who said her husband shot her, Investigator Ariel Esparza said in a statement. The officers announced themselves while entering the backyard, she said, and then both the man and the officers began shooting. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Esparza said. None of the officers involved were hurt.
AMBER Alert issued for missing 7-month-old from Irving, Texas
IRVING, Texas An AMBER Alert has been issued for a missing child who police believe is in grave or immediate danger.Police said they are searching for seven-month-old Serenity Berry. Berry is 2 feet tall and is 22 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet 9 inches tall, roughly 280 pounds, with black hair and black eyes. According to police, they were last seen in the 2900 Block of West Pioneer Street in Irving, Texas around 7 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Irving Police Department at 972-273-1010.
Cowboys RB McFadden breaks elbow during Memorial Day weekend
IRVING, Texas โ Dallas running back Darren McFadden fractured his right elbow in an accident at home and will likely be sidelined at the start of training camp. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said the accident happened during Memorial Day weekend, and McFadden returned for voluntary workouts last week. Garrett said the fracture was discovered during a physical before the mandatory minicamp that started Tuesday. McFadden, who had surgery Tuesday, was fourth in the NFL in rushing last season with 1,089 yards. Garrett said McFadden would be out "at least a couple of months."
