โWe had stepped into a void in history that needed to be exposedโ: Book honors heroic women of Texas and Mexico
SAN ANTONIO โ March is Womenโs History Month and some heroic women are being honored in a new book called โRevolutionary Women of Texas and Mexico.โThe book was the idea of local artist Kathy Sosa. She learned that many women made that journey alone and later would influence an entire culture in Texas. โWe had stepped into a void in history that needed to be exposed.โWith the help of Ellen Riojas Clark, Jennifer Speed and her husband Lionel Sosa the book began to evolve. It ends up be a collection of 18 essays written by authors, journalists and scholars. โThat was a huge highlight that day she said she would like to contribute to the book,โ Sosa said.
New childrenโs book encourages kids to embrace and appreciate the dark
SAN ANTONIO โ As a kid, many of us are afraid of the dark, but what we donโt know is that the dark is very helpful to the environment and nature. That is why San Antonio educator Sheril Phillabaum wrote โWho Loves the Dark?โ our KSAT Book Club pick for February. Phillabaum and her husband enjoy the outdoors and her husband, an astronomy enthusiast, taught her about dark skies and dark sky parks. Besides reading the book, kids can actually visit dark sky parks in Texas, the closest being Enchanted Rock State Park in Fredericksburg or the UBarU Camp and Retreat Center outside of Kerrville. SAN ANTONIO โ KSAT 12 has kicked off its new book club series. Every month, weโll feature a new book written either by a San Antonio-area or Texas author. For January, the book choice for KSATโs Book Club is โAfghanistan: The Dogs Iโve Known in 2 Warsโ by Dennis Blocker. The first book concentrates closely on the dogs, while the second book gives a closer look at the handlers who trained the canines.
