Driver killed in 3 vehicle accident on Interstate 10 identified

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office has identified the name of the person killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 10.

Joe Calderon, 24, was killed Aug. 8 when his sport utility vehicle rear-ended a white truck in the 1500 block of Interstate 10 near Probandt.

According to police Calderon's SUV collided with the truck which had already hit a guardrail and another car.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

The highway was shut for a time while emergency crews worked at the scene.

Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 10 overnight, officials said Monday.

The crash happened just after 9 p.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Interstate 10 near Probandt.

Police said a white truck tried changing lanes and hit a small car causing both to crash into a guardrail. That's when, police said, a sport utility vehicle rear-ended the white truck, killing the driver of the SUV.

No one else was hurt in the accident, police said.

The name of the victim has not been released.

The highway was shut down in both directions until early Monday as a result of the crash. The lanes have since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
