18-wheeler, pickup truck involved in crash on S. Highway 281, FM 1937

UPDATE: The medical examiner's office identified the man killed in the crash as Victoriano Chavarria, 30. The 12-year-old has not yet been identified.

Original Story: A crash that happened on FM 1937 in South Bexar County left two people dead, a 12-year-old boy and a man.

Authorities said an 18-wheeler and a pickup, with two adults and three children inside, collided Friday afternoon.

Officials said the driver of the 18-wheeler saw the truck driver coming across his lane as he drove north on FM 1937.

"He (pickup truck driver) corrected himself and got back into his lane, but right about the time that the 18-wheeler went to pass him, he cut back across his lane and sideswiped him, causing the pickup to overturn,” said Russel Johnson, San Antonio Fire Department battalion chief.

Officials said three of the passengers were ejected, including an infant who landed in a ditch. Another driver found the baby and put the child in a little basket until first responders arrived.

The baby and another child were rushed to University Hospital. A female passenger was taken to SAMM-C. The driver of the 18-wheeler was also taken to the hospital for a leg injury.
