Attorney to plead guilty to bribery charges

Al Acevedo target of federal probe

San Antonio attorney Al Acevedo, who has been at the center of a federal investigation into suspected corruption at the Bexar County Courthouse, is expected to plead guilty to bribery charges.

Though no date has been for Acevedo, 59, to formally enter the plea, he is expected to do so within the next 10 days.

Acevedo has been linked to the resignation last month of District Judge Angus McGinty. He stepped down on Valentines Day amid allegations that he showed favoritism to cases involving Acevedo in exchange for auto repair work.

McGinty has not been charged.

The investigation into the allegations of corruption began several months ago. It was conducted by federal investigators in New Mexico after local federal authorities recused themselves from the case.

Though the Bexar County Courthouse has been rife with rumors concerning the investigation since it began no other judges have been implicated to date/
