SA store workers charged with stealing $82K in fake lottery winnings

SAPD: Pair faked paying out money to customers, kept cash

SAN ANTONIO – Two suspects identified as Sarah Ramirez, 27, and Derreain Cosby, 31, are accused of stealing more than $82,000 from the store where they worked through a scheme involving phony lottery winnings.

An arrest affidavit stated that San Antonio police were notified of the alleged thefts by a district manager who oversees the 7-Eleven store in the 7000 block of Intestate 35 North where the suspects worked.

According to the affidavit, police believe Ramirez and Cosby would pretend to pay out money to customers who had winning lottery tickets, but pocket the money instead.

In reality, police said, there were no customers with winning tickets and no winning tickets at all.

Ramirez worked at the store between January and June of this year and police believe she had been taking part in the scheme the entire time, the affidavit stated. Police said she stole about $68,000.

Cosby began working at the store in May and was fired in June. Police attributed about $13,000 of the money that was stolen to him, the affidavit stated.

Both suspects were arrested Tuesday and booked into the Bexar County Jail on charges of theft.
