SAN ANTONIO – State leaders and the family members of an Army specialist from Texas who was killed in action came together to pay tribute to him.
Spc. Dane Balcon was killed at the young age of 19 in 2007 while serving in Iraq. A Senate bill changed the name of the state Highway 151 bridge at Westover Hills to the Specialist Dane Balcon Memorial Bridge.
Balcon’s mother, Dr. Carla Sizer, unveiled the new sign Monday at the Hyatt Resort on the far West Side.
Balcon’s first assignment was at Fort Hood. He spent only two months in the Army before he was tragically killed.
He is survived by two brothers, his father and his mother.
