Career Point College closes, brother saves brother, Cowboys QB controversy

The fallout from Career Point College’s sudden closure continued to spread Monday. The Department of Education revealed Monday what forced Career Point College to close its doors. The for-profit vocational college failed to pay credit balances and required returns of unearned Title IV program funds totaling more than $4.6 million. || At least 80 former Career Point students had contacted St. Philip’s College, and about 20 had visited the school’s admissions office, according to Adrian Jackson, spokesperson for St. Philip’s College. || News that came by email had dozens of students on their feet Monday morning, gathered outside the entrance to the Career Point College campus at Wonderland of the Americas. Kiara Adair, who was among the group gathered Monday, said she was hoping to speak with someone in the administration to find out what to do next.

In a letter to student and teachers, Career Point College the president and CEO Larry Earle said the school would be closing effective immediately. Dozens of students and teachers have called about the school’s closure and emailed KSAT a copy of the letter they reportedly received. Career Point is a two-year, for-profit college. Burned students started using #ThanksCareerPoint hashtag to share their displeasure on social media.

Brotherly love

A brave 5-year-old boy pulled his little brother, 2, to safety after a crash that killed their father. Houston police said the father was driving a tractor-trailer with his sons inside on Interstate 45 when he lost control and struck a guardrail and then a concrete pillar. The truck flipped over and the father was ejected and died at the scene.

Rumble in North Star Mall

A violent brawl between a police officer and a suspect happened right in front of shoppers inside North Star mall Saturday morning. The fight occurred by the kiosks as shoppers and a security guard looked on authorities said.

Dak vs. Tony

It is shaping up to be a battle in the Big D. Whether the public sees any of it remains to be seen. The Dallas Cowboys are headed into a bye week leading the NFC Division with a 5-1 record. Leading the way is rookie quarterback Dak Prescott. He is playing for the injured Tony Romo. While many fans are saying they want to see Prescott continue to lead the team, owner Jerry Jones has said multiple times that Romo is No. 1 in his book.
