Family of man found dead on side of highway searches for answers

Arturo Villanueva, 42, found Sunday morning

SAN ANTONIO – Members of a South Side family say they are feeling the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They also said they have more questions than answers.

Arturo Villanueva, 42, was found dead in the 2800 block of Southwest Loop 410 access road just before 2 a.m. Sunday. San Antonio police believe it was a hit-and-run.

"How come he didn't stop?" asked Villanueva's sister-in-law, Maria Villanueva. "Whoever did it should come out and say that they did it."

The victim was last seen Saturday evening at a birthday party at his parents' home. He tried leaving in a vehicle, but since he'd been drinking, a loved one took his keys away. His family believes someone picked him up and took him to a night club off Highway 90 on the city's West Side.

Police said there are no witnesses and they are still investigating.

"We're devastated. We can't believe it. We're heartbroken," Maria Villanueva said.

Loved ones describe Auturo Villanueva as a family man. They say he leaves behind a wife.

The man's family is now hoping for closure while figuring out how they are going to raise money for funeral expenses.
