SAN ANTONIO – A 67-year-old man is in custody and charged with murder in a deadly hit-and-run dating back almost two decades, authorities said.
Francisco Garcia is charged with the September 2001 death of Gilberto Rodriguez. An indictment alleges Garcia hit Rodriguez with a truck and then fled.

Rodriguez later died of his injuries.
The Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office sent KSAT 12 News this statement pertaining to the case: “The defendant fled to Mexico immediately following the incident. When the current administration took office in January 2015, we began a review of all of the cold cases, including this case. We reviewed all of the facts and circumstances surrounding this case and presented it to a Grand Jury in March of 2016. A true bill indictment was returned. The defendant is currently awaiting trial out of the 379th District Court. Because this is a pending matter, we will not comment further at this time.”
