Community leaders kick off National Crime Victims' Rights Week

SAN ANTONIO – City and county leaders joined victim advocacy groups at an event Monday morning to kick off National Crime Victims' Rights Week.

The event was held in front of the Bexar County Courthouse.

This year's theme is "Serving Victims, Building Trust, Restoring Hope."

The national weeklong event is an opportunity for crime victims to get help for themselves and their loved ones.

Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said it's about bringing a voice to victims.

"Their injuries may be physical, they may be financial or emotional and sometimes all three. And the trauma they experience can last forever too many times," she said.

A number of crime prevention and awareness events are scheduled throughout the week.

KSAT is hosting a phone bank from noon to 7 p.m. Monday, offering information for crime victims. The number to call is 210-351-1363.
