Fearing he would be seriously injured, the other officer opened fire on Clay, the report said. Clay was not hit by the gunfire, police said.

Trying to escape the parking lot, Clay hit nine vehicles before he took off on foot, the report said.

Clay broke into a nearby home, where he broke through a glass window, injuring himself, police said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, burglary of a habitation and criminal mischief.

The officer in the police cruiser suffered a contusion to the left knee.
