SAN ANTONIO – Love otters? Now you can meet them yourself at Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo!
Here are some fun facts about the fun, playful animals:
- These otters are “diurnal,” which means they are active during the day. They are constantly swimming and playing.
- They are agile swimmers and use their large tail as a rudder. They can reach a speed of approximately seven miles an hour. For comparison, the average human swims at two miles an hour.
- They have small claws, strong jaws and sharp teeth.
- One of their favorite treats is herring. “However, for enrichment, they get live prey sometimes, so they get crawfish or live fish," said Jarrod Forthman with Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo.
