Train crashes into parked big rig

18-wheeler parked too close to tracks at Culebra and North San Marcos

SAN ANTONIO – Multiple railroad crossings and roads were closed Friday morning after a train crashed into a parked 18-wheeler north of downtown.

The accident happened around 12:15 a.m. at the crossing at Culebra and North San Marcos near the Five Points intersection.

Investigators said the rig was parked too close to the tracks and the passing Union Pacific train crashed into it.

Two people were asleep inside the cab of the 18-wheeler, but no injuries were reported.

The 18-wheeler was reportedly headed to Eagle Pass Friday morning and carrying 45,000 pounds of flour.

Crews removed the rig from the crossing around 6:30 a.m. and all crossings and roads were reopened at 7 a.m.
