SAN ANTONIO – The Judson Independent School District has just been awarded a grant from the Department of Defense that will benefit several schools.
The $1.75 million grant is from the Department of Defense Education Activity Program, according to JISD press release.

Six JISD schools will benefit from the money during a three year period. The grant will help students become more competitive in STEM courses that include science, technology, engineering and math. It will also fund learning tools like a mobile computer lab.
"It's a lot more technology driven and the way that the world in going nowadays everything is going digital. It's really important, even in the younger grades for them to become familiar with high technology," said Steve Linscomb, Director of Public Information at Judson ISD.
The grant focuses on schools that have at least 15 percent of its student body connected to the military.
Those schools include: Kitty Hawk Middle School, Converse Elementary, Olympia Elementary, Rolling Meadows Elementary, Masters Elementary and Salinas Elementary schools.
The grant marks the largest in the history of Judson ISD. The press release stated only 30 of these grants were awarded across the country.
