Canyon Lake man still missing in Guadalupe River

Samuel Gene Rosson Jr. last seen early Thursday morning

Dive teams on Friday continued to look for 26-year-old Samuel Gene Rosson Jr., of Canyon Lake.

He was last seen by a witness trying to grab a pump out of the Guadalupe River, when he slipped and fell in and was swept away.

It happened in the 500 block of Riverside Path in Canyon Lake.

Crews have been looking for Rosson since Thursday morning when he was last seen around 1 a.m.

A helicopter was in the air most of Friday looking for Rosson.

But the Comal County Sheriff's Office said it's been a difficult search because the Guadalupe River is fast-moving from the recent rain and heavy debris.

Dive team units searched the riverbank and river by boat from the point of entry around the horseshoe to the area of Whitewater.

Crews from the Comal County Sheriff's Office, Canyon Lake Fire EMS, New Braunfels Fire Department, and the Department of Public Safety all took part in the search effort.

Comal County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Reynolds said conditions on the river are so treacherous, divers are having a hard time getting in the river.

"We can't put divers in the water right now because of the flow rate of the river and it's so muddy, so it's not conducive or safe to put divers in the water," Reynolds said. "So there have been boats to do shore-to-shore, but there's a lot of debris, so that's taking a long time."

Reynolds said if Rosson isn't found Friday, the search for him will continue Saturday morning.
