Woman shot in head on North Side not cooperating with police

Victim found after traffic accident near shooting scene

SAN ANTONIO – A 30-year-old woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after she was shot in the head, San Antonio police said.

Officers responded around 6:15 p.m. to a reported traffic accident in the 700 block of Dewhurst Road near I-10 and Loop 410.

Police discovered that a woman riding in a truck had been shot in the head.

Police said the shooting took place a few miles away in the 1700 block of San Angelo, near West Avenue. The woman said she heard a gunshot and felt pain in the back of her head.

Investigators aren't sure if she had a bullet or fragment lodged in the back of her head. She was taken to University Hospital in stable condition, but police said she was not cooperating with investigators.

A 48-year-old man, who witnesses said was driving the truck, got out and said he wasn't driving. Police said they are investigating whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Police said he was trying to take her to the hospital but missed an exit and went down the wrong street. Officers said he was going too fast and slammed into some bushes in front of a church at the edge of Balcones Heights.

Police aren't yet sure who shot the woman. Bullet holes were found in the walls of the home where the shooting happened.
