Man surrenders to authorities after firing gun, barricading self in home

Incident began around 11:30 p.m. Monday near Glacier Sun Dr, Mystic Sunrise Dr

SAN ANTONIO – Authorities worked long-hours overnight to get a man to surrender after firing gunshots and then barricading himself inside a home on the city's Northeast Side.

The man eventually surrendered around 6 a.m. Tuesday after police were called to the Sunrise Subdivision around 11:30 p.m. Monday night.

Officials said they received calls about a man firing gun shots into the air. When they arrived they witnessed the man firing his gun before going back inside a home near Glacier Sun Drive and Enchanted Sun.

Police said the man had barricaded himself inside. Officer Doug Greene said at one point there were two people inside the home with him but they have since left. No one was hurt.

SAPD said they believe the man was under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs, possibly upset about a relationship and began shooting both inside and outside the home but never aimed at anyone.

The suspect did put up a bit of a struggle when police put handcuffs on, officials said. He is being taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
