Man shot after failing to pay strangers for ride home, police say

Bulllet went through victim, also hit house

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are still sorting out the story behind a shooting outside a Northwest Side home.

Officers responding to a call around 2:30 a.m. Monday found a 51-year-old man who had been shot in the back in the 800 block of John Adams.

The victim told police he had approached two strangers on Havana Drive -- about two miles from his home -- and asked for a ride home.

He said the strangers had to drive home there for a price. However, when they arrived he told them he didn’t have enough money.

The victim said as he walked toward his front door, one of them men shot him in his back.

Police said the bullet went through him and also struck the wall of his home.

The victim was taken to a hospital and was in serious condition.

The two men involved in the shooting got away.
