Man found guilty of super-aggravated sexual assault of a child

James Artie Shaw faces life in prison

SAN ANTONIO – A man charged with sexually assaulting a girl, 6, has been found guilty of the crime.

Prosecutors said James Artie Shaw assaulted the daughter of a female "acquaintance." "She (the child's mother) walked (through) the door, and found this man lying on his back in his bed with his pants down," prosecutor Daryl Harris told the jury during opening arguments in Shaw's trial on Tuesday. "With him in bed was the woman's 6-year-old daughter."

Police testified the mother had reason to believe that was not the first incident.

The minimum sentence would normally be five years in prison, but the longer term is being applied in this case because Shaw was charged with super-aggravated sexual assault of a child, a charge filed when the victim is 6 or younger.

The punishment phase begins Thursday.
