Rivers and creeks swelled beyond their banks early Thursday morning after about a foot of rain fell in Wimberley overnight.
Tom Keyser started cleaning up the big mess left behind at his restaurant, Ino'z Brew and Chew, after the waters of Cypress Creek receded.
"It's a trade-off. I mean, how are you going to fight this location right on the water in such a great community? So it is what it is, and we get up here and clean it up, and go at it again," he said.
The once-tranquil water stripped bark from trees, rolled up grass and took out decks.
When Julie T. Chapman woke up around 3:15 a.m., the small creek beside the Creekhaven Inn had become a raging river.
"(It was) awesome, in the original use of that word. The power of nature, and how quickly something can come up," she said.
She was visiting from Montana and teaching an art seminar at the Inn. She and the other artists had to evacuate to the community center to wait out the flood.
The inn had six to eight inches of water of the first floor, so once the flood-waters receded, the artists helped the inn owners pick up soggy rugs and dry out the floor.
Chapman said her visit was still mostly positive thanks to the owners of the inn, who made coffee for the artists before waking them up to evacuate.
