EL PASO, Texas U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced Tuesday that officers working at the Ysleta port of entry in El Paso seized approximately 158 pounds of liquid methamphetamine Friday evening disguised as bottled water. These might look like ordinary water bottles, but @CBP agriculture specialists discovered they were filled with liquid meth. CBP officers selected the man for a secondary exam.The agency reported that a drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics. CBP officials said an X-ray scan of the bottled water, conducted by a CBP agriculture specialist, revealed dense liquid in the water bottles. LAREDO, TX Customs and Border Patrol officials announced Tuesday that border patrol agents at the Laredo Port of Entry seized more than 200 pounds of pork which was concealed in the engine compartment of a pickup truck. CBP officials said the seizure happened on July 29 when an officer referred a 1980 Ford F-150 driven by a 30-year-old U.S. citizen traveling from Mexico for a secondary inspection. Following an agriculture canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, CBP officers and agriculture specialists discovered a total of 201 pounds of undeclared and prohibited pork products concealed in the engine compartment, CBP said in a statement. According to CBPs statement, CBP agriculture specialists issued a $1,000 civil penalty for the undeclared commercial quantity of the prohibited product. At this time, Mexico is considered free of Classical Swine Fever (CSF), but pork importations need to meet special requirements, CBP said in a statement.
Exotic bird discovered during human smuggling attempt in Texas, officials say
BROWNSVILLE, TX U.S. Border Patrol announced Monday that they seized an exotic bird while taking a group of people illegally smuggled across the board into custody. As agents arrived to the location, they discovered evidence of several of people who entered the country illegally, CBP said in a statement. Additionally, agents noticed a plastic bag carried by one of the aliens with a live bird inside.After agents inspected the bag they determined the bird to be a toucan. CBP officials stated that while it is uncommon for exotic animals to be discovered in human smuggling attempts, agents rescued a tiger cub stuffed in a duffel bag near Brownsville two years ago.
