A female maintenance worker at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center told San Antonio police last week that two male co-workers have repeatedly assaulted her the past six months. The allegations, laid out in an Aug. 15 SAPD assault report obtained by KSAT Investigates, are the latest issues to arise at the city-run facility, at least five maintenance supervisors have been accused of improperly treating female coworkers in recent years.

A new bill that goes into effect this September is expected to keep San Antonio in the game for major events at the Alamodome and Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center for years to come.

Female maintenance employees at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center were subjected to sexual harassment, sexual assault, battery and verbal abuse by their male supervisors, a lawsuit filed Friday in Bexar County District Court claims.

A Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center supervisor accused of assaulting a coworker has left his position with the city, weeks before he is scheduled to go to trial in the case.

Additional female maintenance employees at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center have come forward to detail complaints against a building supervisor, who was arrested weeks after KSAT Investigates exposed footage of him yanking a subordinate’s hair while both were on duty last year.

A nearly year-long investigation by the KSAT 12 Defenders found women who work at the massive complex subjected to treatment at the hands of men they report to that included one woman having her hair pulled and another being temporarily committed to a psychiatric unit earlier this year after attempting to file a complaint at city hall.

SAN ANTONIO – A place known for hosting meetings became the spot for heating and a shelter from the cold for dozens of San Antonio residents whose homes are without electricity due to the wintry weather. The city of San Antonio opened up the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Tuesday night to use it as a warming shelter. The convention center will remain open Wednesday, city officials said. Anthony Grey was one of the 220 people who showed up at the convention center, hoping to escape a harsh reality at home. Laura Mayes, a spokeswoman for the city, said the warming center will remain open throughout the day Wednesday.

San Antonio city officials said the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will remain open through Friday as a warming center. Southside ISD opened up a 24-hour warming center at Losoya Middle School Gym, at 1610 Martinez Losoya Road. SAN ANTONIO – Families looking for a warm place to stay finally found relief Tuesday as the City of San Antonio opened up a warming center at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Carl Serth, his wife, daughter and grandson were among the first to arrive at the warming center after trying to survive at home since 5 a.m. Tuesday without any power. San Antonio police officers drove others to the shelter. Families said they were grateful to finally have a warm place for their frightened little ones. The warming center can fit up to 500 people and possibly more.

SAN ANTONIO – The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will remain open Wednesday as a warming center for San Antonio residents, city officials said. Anyone needing transportation help in getting to the convention center can call 311. The convention center will take up to 500 people although capacity may increase if needed, Walsh said. Several hundred cots and food will be available at the convention center, Walsh said. Residents are urged to take their own clothing and medicine and whatever other necessary items they may need.

SAN ANTONIO – An employee with Animal Care Services fired last year after leaving a euthanized dog in a transport vehicle has lost his bid to be reinstated, according to Human Resources records provided to the KSAT 12 Defenders. The deceased dog remained in the mule for nearly 24 hours, according to city records. The commission unanimously recommended that Perez’s termination be upheld, and City Manager Erik Walsh concurred with the recommendation Dec. 21, city records show. Three months later, in September 2019, the interim general manager again found Jasso asleep as the GM was leaving for the day.

SAN ANTONIO – Not even a pandemic could stop the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner this year, but it did need to pivot from a crowded ballroom filled with food and festivities at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center to doorstep deliveries. A spokeswoman said Corazon Ministries and SAMM Ministries also picked up meals to distribute to the city’s homeless population. “You’d be amazed by what happens when people come together for the right reasons,” said Raul Jimenez III, the founder’s grandson. The event started in 1979 by his grandfather, a restaurant owner and businessman, to provide seniors and anyone else in need the Thanksgiving dinners they wouldn’t otherwise have. The long-standing tradition involves serving up 25,000 meals at the Convention Center.

Gonzalez Convention Center, will be delivering meals to those in need instead of hosting the event in person this year due to COVID-19. And, as of Thursday, planners of the event said it had reached its full capacity for meal requests and has closed registration. Anyone that is still in need of a Thanksgiving meal is urged to contact the San Antonio Food Bank or Meals on Wheels San Antonio for further assistance. Gonzalez Convention Center to celebrate Thanksgiving at the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner. “This year, our goal is to feed up to 10,000 seniors and homeless through a homebound delivery system,” said Jessica Jimenez, Raul Jimenez’s granddaughter. “One of the things that some people might not know about the Thanksgiving dinner is that we’ve actually had a homebound delivery system in our organization for more than 10 years. So, we last year fed close to 3,000 seniors in underprivileged families through homebound delivery where the meals were picked up and then delivered to their home. SAN ANTONIO Another popular event has been canceled in San Antonio during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Big Texas Comicon recently made the announcement that this Septembers event at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center would have to be canceled. Fiesta San Antonio canceled for 2020 because of coronavirusThe announcement states that there simply wasnt a way to protect the health of attendees, guests, artists, vendors and staff. Other big events to cancel this year include Fiesta, Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg and the State Fair of Texas.

Visit San Antonio President and CEO Cassandra Matej said her organization is going over safety protocols in anticipation of the convention. "Coaches recognize and value great preparation, and thats what theyre going to enjoy when they return to San Antonio.There is no better opportunity of bringing Texas back together than through our Coaches and the Miracle of the Huddle, Texas High School Coaches Association Executive Director Joe Martin said in a news release. SAN ANTONIO – Local and visiting chefs hosted the Grand Tasting at The Grotto at Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Saturday night to raise money culinary scholarships, Chefs 4 Chefs and Culinaria's Urban Farm project. The event was part of Culinaria's Festival Week, a five-day series of dinners, charity auctions and tastings. A silent auction was held inside the convention center to benefit the Hope for Hospitality fund.
