Will Santa travel during COVID-19 pandemic? Students write play to explain.
SAN ANTONIO โ There may not be a live audience at Holmes NSITE Theatre Artโs annual Christmas play this year due to the pandemic; however, now anyone in the world can watch it. Original play writing has been part of the curriculum at the NISD high school for almost a decade. โ(This yearโs) play is called โFixing Christmas.โโThe story centers around a group of North Pole characters brainstorming how Santa will stay safe and travel during the pandemic to spread Christmas cheer. Numerous hours of preparation including writing, costumes, rehearsals, recording and editing went into uploading the 26-minute play on YouTube. Weโre starting to see this (pandemic) isnโt going to be forever.โTo watch Fixing Christmas, click here.
What Im learning about being a minority in America as a 15-year-old sophomore in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO Editors note: This op-ed was written by Jayce Sibley, a sophomore at Holmes High School in San Antonio. I wont pretend to have all the answers or speculate that America is a terrible country, because I dont believe that, however, I can shed light on what Im learning about being a minority in America. Im learning that these things come attached as part of the handbook for living as a minority in America. Im learning that we wont be treated equally, get equal opportunities, or get to feel normal and safe in public interactions. Im learning that I will work hard anyway, with some added conviction, to see these things change.
Many donors a โno showโ for blood drive held at Holmes High School
SAN ANTONIO โ The COVID-19 pandemic has led to some changes in the way people donate blood in our area. Still, officials at the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center said donors are needed, especially those with Type-O blood. On Friday, a blood drive was held at Holmes High School on Ingram Road. โItโs my 80th donation.โThe blood drive was moved to Holmes High School as part of an effort by the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center to abide by social distancing guidelines while continuing the mission to save lives. If you missed Fridayโs blood drive, there will be one every day for the foreseeable future.
