Walmart, Samโs Club pharmacies to administer COVID-19 vaccines in Texas, including San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO โ One San Antonio Walmart pharmacy will begin administering COVID-19 vaccines starting Friday, according to a news release from the company. The Walmart located at 5555 De Zavala Road will be one of several locations across the nation that will begin to vaccinate residents through the U.S. Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. In total, more than 1,000 Walmart and Samโs Club pharmacies will begin to receive allotments of the vaccine. Those who are eligible to receive the vaccine can schedule an appointment via the Walmart and Samโs Club websites once appointments are available, according to the news release. โWe want to help the country re-open, but we can only achieve that through widespread COVID-19 vaccination.
Tribes try to shield elders and their knowledge from virus
That means losing elders to the virus could wipe out irreplaceable pieces of culture. Concern for elders is also apparent in the tribe's COVID-19 vaccine-distribution plans. Roy Boney Jr., who manages a Cherokee language program, said the vast majority of Cherokee speakers are elders. Pequot elders play an important role in the effort to revive the tribe's language, which is no longer widely spoken. Karen Ketcher was among 28 Cherokee Nation elders who have died from the coronavirus.
Walmart latest retailer to require customers to wear masks
Last week, Starbucks announced that customers who visit its company-owned cafรฉ locations in the U.S. will be required to wear face coverings. Costco Wholesale Club was one of the first major retailers to require face coverings for customers at all of its stores. โI think Walmart's decision will give cover to other retailers to require masks," said Michael J. Hicks, an economist at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Social media is full of videos capturing clashes between those who are asked to wear masks, and employees who are under orders to make sure people wear them. About half of U.S. states require masks in public places, according to the RILA.
Sams Club to offer curbside pickup nationwide
SAN ANTONIO Get ready to have your bulk grocery order from Sams Club loaded directly into your vehicle without ever stepping foot inside the warehouse. Sams Club is launching curbside pickup nationwide with the service expected to be available at all 597 club locations by the end of June, according to a press release. KSAT reached out to a spokesperson for the company and confirmed that Sams Club will offer curbside pickup across all its clubs as of June 23. Upon arrival to the club, members will use one of the designated pickup spots, and a Sams Club associate will load items into their cars. Curbside pickup hours for Plus members will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
