Who will take control of Alamo Plaza?

City of SA, state discussing who will control Alamo Plaza

SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio and the state of Texas are discussing who will gain control of Alamo Plaza.

On Wednesday, Mayor Ivy Taylor discussed the issue with Councilman Diego Bernal and other council members.

Taylor said the city will need a partnership. They plan to issue a request for a proposal for a consultant to get a plan together for the area.

"It's a key part of our city so I think it's important for San Antonio to have a strong voice in whatever the future of Alamo Plaza is," Taylor said.

Taylor added the city needs to think about what is the best way to reflect the history and heritage of the area.

Taylor also said Alamo Plaza is considered to be the top tourist location in Texas and the city needs to acknowledge its role in downtown San Antonio.
