Suspected shoplifter also accused of hitting deputy with car

Affidavit: Abbie Evans, 24, aimed car at deputy

SAN ANTONIO – A 24-year-old woman is accused of aiming her car at a Bexar County sheriff's deputy when he tried to intervene after she allegedly stole items from a Walmart on Foster Road.

According to an arrest affidavit, Abbie Evans was spotted shoplifting at the east Bexar County business on May 19.

The affidavit stated that a deputy, dressed in full uniform, followed her out of the store and attempted to stop her in the parking lot by calling out to her several times.

The deputy eventually caught up with Evans as she climbed behind the wheel of her car and tried to pull her out.

Instead of complying, though, Evans stepped on the gas pedal, causing the door of her car to hit the deputy in the knee, the affidavit stated.

The deputy said he also noticed Evans turn the steering wheel, aiming the car in his direction as she moved forward, the affidavit stated.

He said he feared that she would either drag him or run him over.

Although Evans got away that day, the deputy was able to identify her later in a photo lineup.

She was arrested Wednesday on a charge of aggravated robbery, the affidavit stated.
