High-speed chase ends in gang member's arrest

BCSO along with Leon Valley police catch man in dead-end street

SAN ANTONIO – A man is in custody after taking officials on a high-speed early morning chase, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

The incident began around 2 a.m. on Loop 410 and Marbach Road on the city's far Northwest Side. 

Deputies said Hermelindo Zepeda, 23, led them on the 18-minute chase from Loop 410 into Leon Valley at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. Zepeda made his way down Bandera Road and into a neighborhood located at Timberhill and Still Brook Street.

The Bexar County deputies with the assistance of the Leon Valley police trapped the car in a dead-end street. Zepeda tried to run on foot deputies said, but was was quickly caught.

The Sheriff's Office said he is a known gang member. Deputies searched the car and found a gun and drugs inside the vehicle. 

Zepeda told deputies he fled because he knew had active warrants out for his arrest. He now faces possession charges along with evading arrest.
