Texas fired Herman on Saturday after four winning seasons, then hours later announced it was giving the job to the Alabama offensive coordinator. He will be Texas’ fourth head coach since the program’s last Big 12 championship in 2009. Of note, Sarkisian was a USC assistant when Texas beat the Trojans for the national championship in the epic 2006 Rose Bowl.

17 people cited, warned or kicked out of Alamo Bowl for ‘repeated refusal’ to wear face masks, city says
SAN ANTONIO – As the Texas Longhorns crushed the Colorado Buffaloes in the Alamo Bowl Tuesday night, security staff were throwing penalty flags of their own off the field. The City of San Antonio’s running database of citations was updated Wednesday to show that 10 people at the game, inside the Alamodome, were cited for “repeated refusal” to wear masks or wear them properly. The violation states that the guests had received prior warnings before they were cited. Another seven people were either issued warnings or left/were escorted out due to violating the mask rule, according to the city. The San Antonio Development Services Department (DSD), Center City Development and Operations Department, San Antonio Police Department and Metro Health are all charged with enforcing San Antonio’s emergency declaration, set in place to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Texas overcomes Ehlinger injury, routs Colorado 55-23

Ehlinger missed the second half after sustaining a shoulder injury in the second quarter. Thompson started the second half in place of Ehlinger and led Texas to a touchdown on its opening possession. Texas: The Longhorns found a capable replacement for Ehlinger in Thompson.
Alamo Bowl pits Colorado’s Broussard vs depleted Texas D
Colorado is playing its first bowl game since the Alamo Bowl following the 2016 season. KEY MATCHUPA depleted Texas defense against Colorado running back Jarek Broussard, who comes in averaging 162.6 yards rushing, including a 301-yard effort against Arizona. Four team captains on defense, including sacks leader Joseph Ossai, have opted out of the season since late November. Officials lay out safety game plan for Valero Alamo Bowl
SAN ANTONIO – The game is on, but the settings will be different this year for the Valero Alamo Bowl. Officials on Monday unveiled their safety plan for the 11,000 people who will be attending the game. Officials said the plan includes basic safety principles. While the new guidelines may lead to an unusual bowl game experience this year, facilitators believe safety goals will be met. This is basically going to be a seventh edition of that,” said Valero Alamo Bowl CEO Derrick Fox.
COVID-19 protocols a priority at next week’s Valero Alamo Bowl, city officials say
SAN ANTONIO – The NCAA will carefully scrutinize next week’s Valero Alamo Bowl as it decides whether to stage two major Women’s Final Four events at the Alamodome next year. The NCAA is in talks with the city of San Antonio and others about bringing the entire women’s basketball tournament to the Alamodome in March and April. Mayor Ron Nirenberg said the Valero Alamo Bowl would be “essentially hosted by Metro Health” because of the pandemic. “The Alamodome has hosted six UTSA football games in very similar situations this year with no negative impacts,” Oliver said. They love San Antonio.”

A former Penn State football player claims in a lawsuit that Nittany Lions players hazed him and other younger teammates by imitating sexual acts in the shower and invoking Jerry Sandusky's name. University police turned over results of their investigation to the local district attorney, who declined to prosecute, Penn State said in a statement. The lawsuit claims some of the older players would physically restrain younger players, taunt them and engage in mock sex acts. The plaintiff has since transferred out of Penn State and attends a different school.
