Dog, cat, bird died in fire on City View Drive

SAN ANTONIO – Three pets were killed in a house fire Friday morning on the city's Northwest Side.

While residents were able to make it out safely from their home in the 4000 block of City View Drive, their dog, cat and bird weren't saved.

Enrique Martinez said he stopped to help before firefighters arrived.

"We were the ones who broke the front windows, and the front door also," he said. "We got into (the home). We made it as far as the kitchen, but the smoke was really getting to us."

The fire, which was reported around 8:30 a.m., destroyed the garage and did smoke and water damage to the rest of the home, fire officials said.

"Thank goodness we were able to stop the fire before it spread to the rest of the house and to the other neighboring houses," Battalion Chief Richard Giusti said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
