Metro Health currently deems the school risk moderate, a week after it was considered low because the positivity rate rose above the 5% benchmark in a matter of days. San Antonio ISD said it also would not allow more students in classrooms. District officials are waiting for local health data to show a positivity rate of 5% or less for two weeks.
Edgewood ISD board votes to extend online-only learning into October
SAN ANTONIO – Edgewood Independent School District board members voted to extend remote-only learning until October 9. The district had planned to be online-only for the first four weeks of school but decided to extend to eight weeks. EISD is one of the first San Antonio-area school districts to announce an extension of remote-only learning past the initial four weeks. The South San ISD school board voted on July 22 to have remote-only learning for the first eight weeks of school beginning on Aug. 12. The latest guidance from the Texas Education Agency says school districts can extend to remote-only learning to eight weeks if approved by the school board.
South San ISD Board President Connie Prado Seeks Alamo Colleges Seat
South San Antonio Independent School District Board President Connie Prado filed to run for the Alamo Colleges District 4 board seat, putting her position on the school board in question past the May 2020 election. I have already told my constituency, back when I ran in 2016 [for South San trustee], this would be my last term, Prado said Tuesday. Prado said she will step down from her role as board president and ask her fellow board members to elect a new president. Having a seat on the Alamo Colleges board gives Prado the opportunity to impact a larger community, she said. Now I am looking out for the welfare of more kids than just those in South San.

Mobile mental wellness pilot program begins at South San ISD
SAN ANTONIO - Earlier this year, South San ISD students spoke up and asked the board of the trustees for more mental health services in their school. A pilot program has begun and is located at Athens Elementary. "It's unlike anything ever offered and I think it's a blessing in itself that it's occurring here," said South San ISD behavior specialist Susan Arciniega. If the pilot program is successful the goal is to expand the service to all school districts.
