Brandeis High School juniors Carlee Pharris and Jalyn Gibson have been best friends since they were 11 years old. The two dreamed of playing college volleyball together, and soon that will come true for the class of 2022 TCU commits. “They’re great leaders for being young players,” said Williams. “They’re best friends. SAISD to phase athletics back in after COVID-19 delay

According to the district, team practices will officially begin only for varsity teams in football, volleyball, cross country and tennis on Oct. 12. These dates are subject to change if COVID-19 conditions head in a negative direction, district officials said. A district spokesperson said updated schedules for fall sports will be posted on the SAISD website early next week. All other teams below varsity will remain in the strength and conditioning phase until further notice. The Young Men’s Leadership Academy (YMLA) will only play two varsity football games since they are a 4A school.

Brandeis volleyball sweeps District 28-6A rival Clark in season opener

SAN ANTONIO – The Brandeis Broncos and Clark Cougars volleyball programs met in the season opener Saturday at Northside Gym. The Broncos swept the Cougars in the best-of-five series with scores of 25-22, 31-29 and 25-18. TCU commit and junior Brandeis outside hitter, Jalyn Gibson, led all hitters with 20 kills while senior defensive specialist, Amy DeWalt, who will be attending Midwestern State in the fall, contributed 32 digs. The victory snaps Clark’s 47-match district winning streak. Brandeis is away at Boerne Champion Tuesday while Clark will face Johnson at Littleton Gym Tuesday.

Since the majority of college athletic programs have canceled their volleyball season, the possibility still remains of conference teams playing a shortened season this spring. It would basically be a year and a half if we had to wait until the fall of 2021.

Harlandale ISD suspends summer workouts for all students until further notice

SAN ANTONIO – With the coronavirus pandemic not letting up in the San Antonio area, Harlandale Independent School District has decided to cancel its summer workouts. The district on Wednesday announced that strength and conditioning workouts for all students have been suspended until further notice. Workouts were canceled out of “an abundance of caution and due to the rise in COVID-19 cases throughout Bexar County,” Athletic Director Rose Ann Martinez said in a letter. Student safety remains our top priority.”Bexar County reported an uptick in COVID-19 cases Tuesday, with the largest daily increase of 436 new cases. The UIL allowed strength and conditioning workouts to begin on June 8 under certain guidelines.

Thomas Jefferson graduate Skyla St. Clair commits to play volleyball for OLLU

SAN ANTONIO Thomas Jefferson graduate, Skyla St. Clair, signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball next season for Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday. Family, friends and coaches celebrated St. Clairs commitment with a ceremony in front of her familys home. The setter received 1st Team All-District honors the past three years and had success in soccer as well earning 2nd Team All-district honors two years in a row. St. Clair is also top 5 in her class and graduated with a 3.9 GPA.

Boernes Angelo Giuffrida leaves lasting legacy for Arcadia Mens Volleyball

Four years ago, Arcadia University kickstarted their mens volleyball program. Eli Porr was tabbed as a candidate to lead the newly-formed team and was quickly hired as head coach. He just looked like a lot of potential.The players name was Angelo Giuffrida. A few weeks later, Giuffrida took an official visit and decided to make his mark in the northeast. It was just a pleasure to play.Even though his collegiate career is officially over, Giuffrida wants to keep volleyball in his life after Arcadia.

Alamo Heights Volleyball not ready to close chapter on historic season

Alamo Heights – When the Alamo Heights volleyball team began their season, it was the coaching staff that brought up the idea of playing for a state championship as an achievable goal. Senior outside hitter, Avery Rosenblum, said the selflessness of her teammates on and off the court has allowed for their success. The team did so despite not having its own on-campus facility this season due to ongoing construction of a new gymnasium. “We just show up into every gym and we just act like we own the place and like it’s our gym,” said Bothe. “To a certain extent not having our home gym means we just want to win everywhere,” Hozhausen said.
