Almost four years after a Consumer Reports investigation prompted the recall of millions of popular infant inclined sleep products, more child deaths have been linked to them. CR and other product safety experts say companies arenโt doing enough to warn parents of the danger.

SAN ANTONIO โ The Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning parents about the dangers of letting infants sleep on nursing pillows. โDo not allow infants to sleep on nursing pillows or other pillow-like products,โ the agency stated. Peachman reviewed the government database of incidents and said there are at least 28 infant deaths between 2012 and 2018 that are possibly linked to nursing pillows or lounge pads. She said parents must get the message that nursing pillows are not sleep products. Peachman says itโs critical to move children who fall asleep on a nursing pillow or lounge pad to safe space.
Over 635,000 duck toys recalled due to lead poisoning

The buttons on the lab coat on the duck contain high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by young children. An average of 379 children under age 15 die in reported drownings linked to pools or spas each year, the CPSC said. Widening the scope to include young people under the age of 20, drowning remains a major threat, ranking as the third leading cause of death among that age group. Nearly 1,000 young people succumbed to drowning in 2017, according to a policy statement published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Although drownings have long been a leading cause of death, childhood drowning rates have been more than halved in the last three decades. Most young children who drown in pools had only been left unsupervised for minutes or less, according to a CPSC study.
