San Antonio โ A widow is hoping her husbandโs tragic motorcycle crash encourages others to thoroughly pay attention to motorcyclists on the roadways. San Antonio police say her husband sadly t-boned into a sedan, as the driver of that sedan was backing out of a home. I said yes, and they told me he was at Brooke Army Medical Center.โShort said she feared the worst. โHe was my soulmate, my person, my hero and I have never in my life felt such agonizing pain,โ Short said. He went out the way he loved, doing the thing that made me happy.โShe said she hopes her husbandโs tragedy encourages people to pay closer attention to motorcyclists.
Disabled veteran in search of his customized wheelchair after losing it on highway
New Braunfels โ A New Braunfels Air Force veteran is asking for the communityโs help with finding his custom-made wheelchair that fell off of his truck while he was on the highway. Five years after he lost his legs, he was given a specially made wheelchair from the organization Segs4Vets. โIt is a unique chair,โ Read said. โIt is the closest thing to having legs again. The mindless going about your day with having legs, I found that in this wheelchair.โโIt makes a big difference in every aspect of my life.

SAN ANTONIO โ A San Antonio woman is being remembered for fighting against racial inequality in the U.S. and then fighting for her country with 24 years of service in the Army. Patricia Baskerville Dilworth, a former Mississippi Freedom Rider and U.S. Army veteran, died on Feb. 21. State Rep. Barbara Gervin Hawkins, San Antonio District 2 Councilwoman Jada Andrews-Sullivan, and The Mississippi Freedom Riders will present resolutions on her behalf during the service. Gulf War veteran remembers heading into Operation Desert Storm 30 years later
SAN ANTONIO โ Itโs been exactly 30 years since the start of the first Gulf War. The war began after then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein invaded the oil rich nation of Kuwait in August, 1990. Bush ordered Operation Desert Storm. David Stewart, a Gulf War veteran, was then 22-years-old and formed part of the U.S. Armyโs 101st airborne division. Operation Desert Storm has since been the largest and deepest air assault in history.

Retired veteran hopes crooks will return military items after truck, trailer stolen
SAN ANTONIO โ A military family moving across the country is now the victim of a theft in Military City, USA, and theyโre working on getting their belongings back from the crooks. The truck and trailer that held their belongings were stolen as they slept in a hotel in San Antonio. Kirkbide said losing his military medals, documents, and other personal items left him feeling violated. They were set to leave for Louisiana on Friday, but they plan to stay in San Antonio for a day or so in hopes of getting their belongings back. Wounded veteran gets keys to new home on Veterans Day
First Class Gabriel Monreal and his wife Rachel toured their new 2,800-square-foot Hill Country home on Veterans Day, they kept repeating one phrase. Monreal was seriously wounded a decade ago while serving in Afghanistan. Monreal stayed in the Army, continuing to help and motivate other servicemen and women. โIt makes me proud, in my heart, that I was able to shed blood and give a body part to my county. That makes me so proud," Monreal said as he looked back on his military career.
Family fights for release of body cam footage months after combat veteran fatally shot by BCSO deputy
Daniels' brother and mother said he hadnโt experienced mental health episodes before the days leading up to his death. Daniels' family said this was the ending that they feared. โHe only became defensive if they became combative with him,โ Daniels' brother said. Damian would want us to make change,โ Daniels' brother said. In October, the county implemented new policies on how mental health calls are dispatched and required a mental health professional and paramedic to respond to specific calls.

During her time at St. Philips, Rivas accomplished another dream: starting a family. Through the help of professors, Rivas was able to adjust to a new standard to earn her pre-nursing degree from St. Philips College. San Antonio veteran hospital bracing for surge in Covid-19 cases
San Antonio The South Texas Veterans Health Care System is gearing up for a surge in the number of Covid-19 related hospitalizations in the coming weeks. The hospital currently has 57 hospitalized patients with Covid-19 and is monitoring another 360 plus positive cases. The 5th and 6th floor of the hospital were renovated to treat Covid-19 patients, and the 7th floor is under renovation. Staff is also being dispatched from other VA hospitals to San Antonio. Saldivar applied to San Antonio Colleges Mortuary Science Department. This has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever done in my life, Saldivar said. Saldivar is eager for San Antonio Colleges commencement ceremony that has been pushed back to the fall of this year due to COVID-19.
Social media users help 91-year-old veterans family find his missing bicycle
UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas A 91-year old veteran in Universal City in search of a stolen bike managed to draw affection and support from thousands of people as far as Ohio and North Carolina. Herman Gawlik still likes to get his daily exercise in the form of a bike ride. He was in the Air Force before it was called the Air Force, she said. Blank said the bike ride is part of her grandfather's daily routine. There is no word from Universal City police on suspect information or an arrest.
