A 15-year-old New Braunfels High School student was arrested Wednesday after an investigation determined that he called in a false tip about a threat at the school that resulted in a lockdown and a full-scale response from various agencies.

NEW BRAUNFELS โ A New Braunfels High School teacher died hours after he was placed on administrative leave following a complaint against him, a district spokesperson said. Chase Hyland was placed on leave by the district on Monday and was later found with a โcritical injuryโ in Kerr County. A spokesperson with the New Braunfels Police Department confirmed there was an active investigation โregarding a possible improper relationship between an educator and a student at New Braunfels High School,โ but said no charges had been filed yet. โThe events that unfolded (Monday) are not anything we anticipated would happen but have become a reality,โ an NBISD spokesperson said. According to the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, Hyland had been employed with NBISD for 10 years and was named NBISD Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2015.
Smithson Valley vs. New Braunfels varsity football game postponed due to COVID-19
NEW BRAUNFELS โ A varsity football game between district rivals Smithson Valley High School and New Braunfels High School scheduled for Friday night has been postponed because a player has COVID-19. The announcement was made on the Smithson Valley Ranger Athletics Twitter page. According to the post, a player on the New Braunfels team tested positive for the new coronavirus. The game is expected to be rescheduled for either Thursday, Nov 5, or Friday, Nov. 6. Purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled game or fans can request a refund.
Alamo Heights, Clemens cheerleading squads place 1st in UIL state competitions
SAN ANTONIO โ Two San Antonio schools can boast state champion cheerleading squads. The cheerleaders at Clemens High School in the Schertz Cibolo Universal City School District are the best in the state for 6A DII, while the Alamo Heights cheer squad dominated 5A DII. โI truly believe all was achieved this past weekend.โThe Alamo Heights squad will compete in the national championships in Orlando next month.
