These San Antonio area school districts will still require students to wear face coverings
SAN ANTONIO โ Private and public businesses and service centers are beginning to announce their own changes to COVID-19 safety protocol following Gov. Greg Abbottโs announcement of the stateโs โ100% reopening.โ Since then, area school districts have explained their safety protocols going forward. Bandera ISD - The district said it will not change its current COVID-19 safety protocols following Abbottโs announcement. South San Antonio ISD - South San ISD will continue to include required mask usage as part of COVID-19 safety protocols. This list will be updated as more schools in the area begin to examine their own COVID-19 safety protocols.
San Antonio-area school districts tentative start dates for 2020-2021 school year
SAN ANTONIO While many Texans are wondering what public schools will look like going into the 2020-2021 school year, it seems that a mid-to-late August start date is the tentative plan for most San Antonio-area school districts as of now. Greg Abbott spoke with KPRC on Friday and said that the Texas Education Agency has prepared for any contingency. First and foremost, its protecting the safety of all students, teachers, staff as well as parents. Then last week, the TEA released new guidelines on remote learning, funding and school attendance. KSAT reached out to a number of school districts regarding academic calendars for the upcoming year and heard back from Comal, East Central, Edgewood, Floresville, New Braunfels, North East, San Antonio, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City, Somerset and Southside Independent School Districts.
This is what a hybrid graduation looks like in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO โ East Central High School held its hybrid graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 early Saturday morning. โIt has been very nerve-wracking not knowing what to expect going into (graduation), and of course, next year,โ Gutiรฉrrez said. โOverall, itโs an exciting process.โHe said the time in quarantine with his family has shown him anything is possible. As students crossed the outdoor stage to the beat of โPomp & Circumstance,โ friends, family and parents stayed behind inside their vehicle. East Central High School seniors were able to snap a socially-distanced picture alongside Superintendent Roland Toscano to commemorate their big day.
