Bicyclist hospitalized after being hit by sedan, police say
SAN ANTONIO โ A bicyclist was hit by a sedan while trying to cross a street on the cityโs Northeast Side late Monday night, San Antonio police said. According to police, the bicyclist, a man in his 50s, was crossing the street against the light when he was struck by a sedan heading westbound on Walzem Road. Police said the driver of the sedan did stop to render aid and will not be facing any charges. The bicyclist was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition. The San Antonio Police Department, the Windcrest Police Department, the Windcrest Fire Department and EMS all answered the call.
BCSO investigating home invasion in Northeast Bexar County
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas โ The Bexar County Sheriffโs Office is investigating following a home invasion in Northeast Bexar County early Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 8000 block of Chestnut Blue, not far from Seguin Road and Walzem Road. According to deputies, the suspects forced their way into the home by kicking in the front door and then stole several items. Police said the suspects did, however, drop some of the items on their way out. At this time, it is unclear as to exactly why this particular home was targeted.
Man shot while driving on Northeast Side, police say
SAN ANTONIO โ A 29-year-old man was shot in the arm while driving on the cityโs Northeast Side early Wednesday morning, San Antonio police said. The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. near Walzem Road and Eisenhauer Road. According to police, the man was shot while driving and he drove to a nearby Shell gas station where he called for help. Police said the suspect vehicle was described as a black, four-door sedan. The unidentified man was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in stable condition.

Pollos Asados Los Nortenos opens second San Antonio location
SAN ANTONIO The uber-popular chicken restaurant Pollos Asados Los Nortenos opened a second location on San Antonios northeast side. The new location at 4822 Walzem Road, formerly the home of Big Easy Cafe, is located in front of Rackspace. The highly-rated charbroiled chicken eatery grills up to 800 chickens a day at the original location on Rigsby Avenue. David Elder listed Pollos Asados Los Nortenos as one of the top 10 restaurants in San Antonio in 2018. The current hours of operation for the second location are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

SAPD: Driver who ran 2 red lights, crashed into van had drugs in car, smelled of intoxicants
SAN ANTONIO A man is facing a charge of driving while intoxicated after police say he ran two red lights on Walzem Road and crashed into a van carrying several people. Officers responded to the crash around 6 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Walzem and the northbound Interstate 35 access road. Police said the suspect, who has not been identified, was driving his SUV eastbound on Walzem and ran the red lights at the southbound I-35 access road and the northbound I-35 access road. His vehicle struck a work van that had a green light on the northbound access road, police said. Three people inside the van were transported to University Hospital and Brooke Army Medical Center with minor injuries.

Deputies make arrests, seek code violations at east Bexar County mobile home park
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas โ Investigators were back out at the Jasper Mobile Home Park, the site of several fires, on Tuesday afternoon to make some arrests. The property on Walzem Road gained so much attention after the Bexar County Sheriffโs Office started a joint investigation with multiple agencies in January 2019 after suspecting arson. Suspicious overnight fire rekindles concerns about safety of east Bexar County mobile home parkDeputies were on the property Tuesday to serve felony arrest warrants and look for code violations. "As a result of those arsons, there was some interference with witnesses on the part of some of the employees at this facility," Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said. The Bexar County Fire Marshalโs Office said it found 55 vacant and unsecured structures that were described as fire hazards.
Fire in abandoned trailer seems suspicious, firefighters say

Firefighters were called around 10:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Walzem Road after receiving reports of a fire. Fire officials said the fire was in an abandoned trailer and that it seemed suspicious. The trailer is now considered a total loss. The Bexar County Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.
Police identify 43-year-old man killed in NE Side crash
SAN ANTONIO โ A 43-year-old man is dead following a vehicle crash on the cityโs Northeast Side early Thursday morning. According to police, Christopher Hayslet was killed when he crashed his sedan into a dark-colored sport utility vehicle just before 7 a.m. on the I-35 north access road near Walzem Road. Police said Hayslet was traveling eastbound on Walzem when it crashed into the SUV that was traveling southbound on the access road. Police said a witness told them that the SUV may have run a red light when the collision happened. Police said the driver of the SUV had neck and head injures, and was taken to local hospital.
