SAN ANTONIO – The 2021 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament is headed to the Alamo City in just over a week. Jenny Carnes, with nonprofit organization San Antonio Sports, joined Leading SA on Sunday to break down the game plan. AdIn 2018, the men’s tournament was also held in San Antonio, however, during the current health crisis, the event itself will look a lot different. “We will not have the same events that we are used to in San Antonio,” Carnes said. Carnes said she is hoping additional family members and other supporters of the teams head to San Antonio to help support local businesses in the area during the tournament.
Thousands of volunteers needed to properly staff Women’s NCAA Tournament in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO – The entire NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held in the greater San Antonio area this year, and in order to properly staff the event, San Antonio Sports Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jenny Carnes says that they need nearly 1,500 volunteers, 3,000 volunteer shifts. San Antonio Sports partners with area schools to make sure students get physical education
SAN ANTONIO – During the COVID-19 pandemic students, teachers and school districts have had to pivot from what they’re used to doing. San Antonio Sports has partnered with local area San Antonio schools to make sure students are getting the P.E. “San Antonio Sports' mission is to transform the community through the power of sport. teachers and families across San Antonio can use to get their kids active at home,” Mandy Adkins from San Antonio Sports said. So there’s a really a good two-way interaction going on.”And to make sure students stay engaged, San Antonio Sports has brought in the pros.
San Antonio Sports launches digital fitness initiative
SAN ANTONIO The need to maintain a healthy lifestyle hasnt dissipated during the Covid-19 pandemic and local nonprofit San Antonio Sports launched its Stay Active. San Antonio Sports Director of Youth and Community Programs, Mandy Adkins, said the organization wanted to find a way to channel fitness to families sheltering at home. Were actually offering more programming online than we would have been able to offer traditionally during the summer. San Antonio Sports has been making it easy, especially for kids, Chambers said. Stay Healthy resources are located on the San Antonio Sports website with the possibility that an online wellness component will be a permanent part of the online curriculum.
