Steele High School to host STEM summer camp for military kids
This summer, 75-150 children of military-connected personnel will attend a weeklong camp at Steele High School courtesy of a Department of Defense grant received by the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. STEMKAMP — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics for Kids of Active Military Personnel — will engage students in grades 3-8 in a host of activities during the June 7-11 camp. “It is a privilege to be able to bring STEMKAMP to children in military families nationwide. Goshen Education Consulting is a STEM educational evaluation and research center located in Edwardsville, IL. Since its founding in 2009, Goshen Education Consulting has conducted more than 60 educational evaluation and research projects.

COLLEGE STATION It didnt take long for Jaylon Jones to make some noise at Texas A&M. The former Steele Knight has been named to the College Football America Yearbooks Preseason Dream Team and also earned a spot on the publications Class of 2020 Freshman Defense. Hes already on campus at College Station and is expected to make an immediate push for playing time this year. As a Knight, Jones was named an Under Armour All-American and earned District 26-6A Defensive MVP honors. Texas A&M football is scheduled to begin their season against Abilene Christian on September 5 at Kyle Field.

With their senior year reduced to online coursework due to the coronavirus pandemic, seniors gathered Friday in their respective school parking lots and began their Final Bell Drive Away once the school bell sounded at 4 p.m., signifying the end of their final day of high school. Some sat on top of car hoods and tops. Others sat in the back of pickup beds or, as was the case at Clemens, looked out at the masses from inside a rented limousine. Hundreds of parents, friends, classmates and well-wishers stood along the streets of a parade route waving signs and banners, sounding air horns, and shouting names and words of joy for the students.

CIBOLO, Texas – The Cibolo Police Department is looking for a person who broke into Steele High School Thursday for 4 1/2 hours. A Facebook page from CPD says a male broke into the school around 1 a.m. and was seen on campus until 5:30 a.m. The age and identity of the person, who had on a backpack, long-sleeved Under Armour shirt, black shorts and a cold-weather hat, is not currently known. Anyone with information about the identity of the person is asked to call Cibolo Police at 210-659-1999. SAN ANTONIO – A 43-year-old teacher at Steele High School and Dobie Junior High School was arrested Tuesday on a charge of indecency with a child. Eric Paul Contreras is accused of inappropriate contact with a student, according to Officer Matt Schima, public information officer with the Cibolo Police Department. UT safety Caden Sterns sidelined following 'knee procedure'
AUSTIN – Former Steele High School star Caden Sterns underwent what the University of Texas at Austin is calling a minor knee procedure Tuesday that will keep the Big 12’s Defensive Freshman of the Year out for all spring drills. The school said Sterns will be available for summer workouts. Sterns is coming off a great season, starting every single game as a freshman. The first true freshman defensive back to start in all 13 games at UT since 2000, Sterns led the team in interceptions with four to go along with his 62 tackles -- 46 of which were solo -- three tackles for a loss, one sack and four pass breakups. Sterns, who was also named to the All-Big 12 first team, suffered a knee injury late in the first half of the Big 12 Championship game.
