Anthony D. Matocha
Anthony Daniel Matocha, 82, of Jourdanton died on Feb. 7, 2020, at The Heights of Atascosalong-term home care in Pleasanton. Matocha, affectionately known as Coach to friends and family, was born in Poteet on Jan. 7, 1938, to Agnes (Parma) and Gus Matocha. The family said Matocha loved God and had an earthly love for all sports, especially baseball. He graduated from Jourdanton High School, St. Marys University and earned masters degrees from Sul Ross State University and Texas A&I University. Matocha is survived by his wife, Martha, of Jourdanton; daughter, Amanda Matocha Hardy and husband, Steven, of Pleasanton; son, Todd Daniel Matocha and wife, Kathyryn, of Columbus, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kyler and Loryn Hardy and Stephen, Evan, Jacob, Meghan and Callum Matocha; two sisters, Anna Rose Matocha Wyatt and husband, Bob, and Annette Marie Matocha Fields and husband, Nolan; sister-in-law, Barbara Kay Scott Matocha; and numerous nieces and nephews.

JOURDANTON - GRUENE, Texas - First up on this trip to some of Texas' towns with unique names is Jourdanton, about an hour's drive south of San Antonio. "The ones we usually hear are 'Jordan-ton,' said Michelle Higginbotham, a lifelong Jourdanton resident. The town is named for Jourdan Campbell, who didnt actually live in the town. Head-on crash kills 1, injures 1 in Atascosa County
CHARLOTTE, Texas – A head-on crash involving two pickup trucks has left one man dead and a driver injured Friday morning in Atascosa County, a Texas Department of Public Safety official said. Deon Cockrell, the crash happened on Highway 97 near milepost 506 in Charlotte. A Ford F-350 was traveling east on the highway when it veered into the opposite lane and struck a Ford F-250, Cockrell said. The driver of the Ford F-350, a 28-year-old man from Jourdanton, was pronounced dead at the scene, Cockrell said. The driver of the Ford F-250 was transported to Methodist Hospital South in Jourdanton with incapacitating injuries and then to San Antonio Medical Military Center, Cockrell said.
