Report: Train going 40 mph at time of conductor's fatal fall
The preliminary investigation into the death of an Amtrak conductor who fell from a train in Rhode Island last month found that the train was traveling about 40 mph (64 kph) at the time, the National Transportation Safety Board said Tuesday. As the train was preparing to depart on its route to Washington, D.C., the assistant conductor radioed the conductor but did not receive a response, the report said. Mexico City metro overpass collapses onto road; 15 dead
An overpass in Mexico City's metro collapsed Monday night, sending a train plunging toward a road, trapping at least one car under rubble and killing at least 15 people, authorities said. Bicyclist killed by train just east of downtown identified
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said a man, identified by the medical examiner’s office on Friday as 54-year-old Tyrone Paul Bowie, tried to cross train tracks with a bicycle and was killed by a train. The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. Thursday near North Pine Street and Duval Street, just east of downtown. According to police, a train was stopped near Pine Street as it was being doubled with another train. Investigators say Bowie was trying to cross the road by going underneath the train with his bicycle when the train suddenly began to move. Police said the train engineer was pulling the train forward when it went into emergency mode and came to a full stop.
Man in critical condition after being hit by train on East Side, officials say
SAN ANTONIO A man is in critical condition after being hit by a train Tuesday afternoon on the East Side, officials say. The incident happened near South New Braunfels and Westfall avenues. Investigators arent sure whether the man fell before being hit or lying on the tracks. They say the impact threw him off the tracks. The man was taken to the Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition.

Amtrak announces nonstop service between DC and New York
(CNN) - Train travel between New York City and Washington is now faster than ever. On Thursday, Amtrak announced that starting in September it will offer a new direct route between Washington Union Station (WAS) and New York Penn Station (NYP). "The new Acela Nonstop service will have you halfway to your New York City or DC destination in the time it would take you to board a flight," Amtrak President & CEO Richard Anderson said in a statement. "This new service will offer an ideal solution for travelers who want to save time and travel between city center DC and New York." Riders can expect to travel for two hours and 35 minutes instead of four hours with the direct service.
