Construction zone where man crashed and died seen as headache by other drivers
SAN ANTONIO โ A North Side construction zone where a driver died after losing control of his car and crashing is seen as a headache by at least one other driver. San Antonio police say a 22-year-old man was driving in the section of that construction zone where five lanes of traffic suddenly are narrowed down to only two. It appears the driver didnโt notice the construction barrels until it was too late, according to one investigator at the scene. (KSAT 12 News)The manโs car veered across all lanes of traffic, jumped a sidewalk and crashed through the backyard fence of a home. So the cones are not really set up correctly,โ Carnevale said, detailing his frustrations with the construction zone.
Hardberger Park land bridge set to open to public on Friday afternoon
Crews are putting the finishing touches on the new land bridge that will finally connect the two sections of Phil Hardberger Park. The land bridge will also feature an elevated walkway that should be completed later this month. The native plants and trees will continue to grow, changing the look of the land bridge over the years. The $23 million project was paid for with proceeds from the 2017 bond and fundraising through the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy. Bikes are allowed in the park, but cyclists are asked to walk their bikes across the new land bridge for safety.
Man killed during shootout with SAPD officers identified by MEโs Office
SAN ANTONIO โ Update:The Bexar County Medical Examiner has identified a 30-year-old man that was shot and killed on the Northeast Side last week. According to police, when officers and a SWAT team arrived, LaPlace kept firing gunshots and then set his trailer on fire. LaPlace then left the trailer and kept firing gunshots throughout the trailer park before six officers confronted the man and returned fire, killing him, police said. According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, when officers and a SWAT team arrived the man kept firing gunshots and then set his trailer on fire. McManus said the man eventually left the trailer and kept firing shots throughout the trailer park.
Amazon plans new distribution center near San Antonio airport
SAN ANTONIO โ Editorโs note: This story was published through a partnership between the San Antonio Business Journal and KSAT. Affiliates of Seattle-based e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc. landed zoning approval Tuesday for a new distribution facility near the airport. The 55-acre site at West Avenue and Wurzbach Parkway west of U.S. 281 has been a vacant lot for decades. Portion of Wurzbach Parkway on Northwest Side of San Antonio to be closed this weekend
SAN ANTONIO โ Wurzbach Parkway between Northwest Military Highway and Blanco Road will be closed this weekend. According to a news release, the road closure will begin Friday at 9 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. Monday. Tobin Land Bridge, which will provide a safe pathway for people and animals to cross into currently divided sections of Phil Hardberger Park. This project includes $13 Million in funding from the voter-approved 2017 Bond and the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy provided $10 Million in donor contributions.
BCSO: 2 men arrested, 11 kilos of methamphetamine seized in bust
SAN ANTONIO The Bexar County Sheriffs Office Narcotics Unit seized over 11 kilograms of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Monday, according to a news release. The traffic stop happened near Wurzbach Parkway and Exchange Parkway. During the stop, the sheriffs office said deputies discovered a cardboard box containing the drugs. Jay Haggard, 34, was also arrested for Possession with Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of Methamphetamine, BCSO said. According to BCSO, Haggard and Hernandez are documented gang members and Hernandez is currently on federal probation for a previous drug-related conviction.
SAPD: Man shot while driving on Northeast Side
SAN ANTONIO San Antonio police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot while driving Monday afternoon on the citys Northeast Side. Officers were called to Wetmore Road and Wurzbach Parkway shortly before 2 p.m., where they found the victim. Man killed in shooting outside San Antonio hookah lounge identifiedThe man, who is in his 40s, told officers he was driving when someone in a dark-colored pickup shot at him, striking him once in the upper body, police said. First responders took the man to the hospital. Officer Doug Greene said the gunman and the victim may have known each other, and that the shooting was preceded by an altercation between the two mean.

6 apartments damaged by fire at North Side apartment complex
SAN ANTONIO โ Residents in a North Side apartment complex were displaced from their units after a fire Wednesday morning. Two apartments were damaged by the fire, and four other apartments were affected by smoke and/or water, officials said. No one was injured in the fire, and two dogs living in separate apartments were rescued.
