Bexar County commissioners approve funding to aid medical examinerโs office facing increased workload
SAN ANTONIO โ This week, Bexar County Commissioners Court, in a unanimous vote, approved a request for additional funding from the chief Bexar County medical examiner to deal with the exponential increase in the MEโs officeโs workload. โLast year, we saw a 17% workload, and weโre used to 5%,โ Dr. Kimberly Molina told commissioners. โWe have six doctors handling the workload of nine.โShe said, in addition to hiring part-time medical examiners, she needs additional office staff. The Medical Examinerโs Office currently has a staff of 56. Molina said the shortage of personnel could have a negative impact on the Medical Examinerโs Officeโs accreditation.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 73-year-old man, and passenger, a 47-year-old woman, were taken to the Brooke Army Medical Center.
MEโs office identifies woman killed in alleged love triangle
SAN ANTONIO โ The medical examinerโs office has identified a victim in an alleged love triangle that left one woman dead and another in jail. Officials say the victim, who the MEโs office identified as 40-year-old Yvette Salinas, went to a home on Seashell Drive -- not far from Five Palms and West Military -- late Tuesday night to confront 35-year-old Priscilla Caballero. Woman arrested in alleged love-triangle slaying at Southwest Side home, police sayInvestigators say they believe the two women were romantically involved with the same man who lives on Seashell Drive. Police say the women got into a fight, and Caballero shot Salinas in the head and fled the scene. Caballero was later arrested and is now facing murder charges in the case.
Medical Examiner IDs man found deceased after crashing truck outside Wilderness Elementary School

Agustin Tellez, 57, suffered a medical incident while driving before crashing his truck outside of the school. MEโs Office identifies toddler killed in two-vehicle crash on Southeast Side
SAN ANTONIO โ Update:The Medical Examinerโs Office has identified a toddler that was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Southeast Side Friday night. Rogelio Morales, 3, died from injuries he sustained in the crash that happened in the 3700 block of E. Southcross, according to officials. The driver of the SUV, a woman in her mid-30s, was also killed in the crash; however, her identity has not yet been released. SAN ANTONIO โ Update:The victim of a deadly overnight crash on Highway 281 has been identified by the Medical Examinerโs Office. Santoy was driving a white Honda Civic on Highway 281 when Robert Lee Collett Jr., 38, crashed his pickup truck into her vehicle from behind, crushing it. Original:A driver who San Antonio police say was speeding and possibly drunk is facing charges after a deadly crash overnight. Officers at the scene said Collett Jr. appeared to be intoxicated. Collett Jr. faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter, police said.
Incarcerated Texans asked to work in county morgue as COVID-19 deaths overwhelm El Paso
The morgue in El Paso is so overwhelmed by the number of people dying from COVID-19, that inmates from the countyโs detention facility are being brought in to assist with the overflow of bodies awaiting autopsy. While the work these inmates do in the community typically goes unpaid, Chris Acosta, a spokesperson for the El Paso County Sheriffโs Office, said โtrustees refused to work unless they were compensated.โ Theyโre making $2 per hour. El Paso County recorded a total of 45 new deaths Thursday and Friday caused by the virus. Late Friday, a state appeals court again blocked El Paso Countyโs shutdown of nonessential businesses that was scheduled to last until Dec. 1. El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego issued the shutdown order Oct. 29 in an effort to slow the latest outbreak of COVID-19 here, but a group of local restaurants and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton quickly sued to block it.

SAN ANTONIO โ A 12-year-old boy is dead after accidentally shooting himself in the head with a loaded gun overnight, according to the Medical Examinerโs Office. Cojuan Singleton died from his injuries at University Hospital, officials said. However, after arriving, police discovered Singleton had gotten ahold of a loaded gun and accidentally shot himself. Just seconds later, Singleton picked it up and thatโs when it accidentally fired, according to officials. SAN ANTONIO โ The Medical Examinerโs Office has identified the victim of a fatal rollover crash near the far West Side. The crash happened Friday afternoon on Cliff Valley Drive, near Culebra Road and Loop 1604. James Range, 73, had a heart attack while he was driving his vehicle and flipped his car as a result, according to San Antonio police. No one else was injured during the crash. SAN ANTONIO โ The Medical Examinerโs Office has identified the victim of a hit-and-run incident on the North Side that happened earlier this week. The crash happened around 12 a.m., Friday, at a residence in the 16600 block of Dolente Road, near Nacogdoches Road and Loop 1604. San Antonio police said the couple inside was surprised but not hurt when the biker came crashing through their front door in the 16600 block of Dolente Road, which is near Nacogdoches Road and Loop 1604. Jasper Richardson, 29, was killed after his vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane of a VIA bus and crashed head-on, according to police. Witnesses say the manโs vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane of a VIA bus, going the opposite direction, when it struck the bus head-on. Medical examiner rules death of man found at NE Side construction site a homicide
SAN ANTONIO โ The medical examiner ruled the death of a man found at a construction site Monday a homicide. Jesus Solis, 47, was found with a gunshot wound to the head inside a parked pickup truck on the Northeast Side. Family demands justice after loved one was found shot inside truck at workSolisโ family said he would have been 48 on Thursday. Driver killed in head-on crash on Culebra Road
SAN ANTONIO โ A driver was killed in a head-on vehicle crash between a Mustang and a sport utility vehicle late Tuesday night. The Bexar County Medical Examinerโs office has identified the driver as Gilberto Trevino, 25. According to police, just after 9 p.m. Trevino lost control of his vehicle in the 6900 block of Culebra Road and drove over the median and crashed into the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of SUV was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries.
