NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A man walking on the highway was killed in a hit-in-run crash on Interstate 35 in New Braunfels late Monday night, the New Braunfels Police Department said. The man was also hit by multiple cars in the main lanes of I-35, police said. Investigators say they do not know why the man was walking on the highway, as he was not part of a road construction crew working in the area. Officers closed the northbound lanes of the highway as investigators worked at the scene. The northbound highway eventually reopened around 11 p.m. Monday, police said.

SAN ANTONIO – A 38-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly hit and killed a 15-year-old girl in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday night, San Antonio police said. The crash happened around 8 p.m. in the 6700 block of Medina Base Road, not far from Moon Valley on the city’s West Side. Police say Miguel Barbosa, 38, hit the girl where there was no sidewalk and fled the scene south on Moon Valley. A witness to the crash pulled over and tried to help, but emergency crews eventually pronounced the girl dead at the scene. Barbosa is charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death, along with a violation of a bond, police said.

SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of running from the scene of a deadly crash had been making plans to leave the country, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Accident investigators found several pieces of evidence, including paint chips and broken parts of the truck, the affidavit said. Police do not believe the relative knew that the truck might have been damaged as a result of the crash, the affidavit says. SAN ANTONIO – A tip has helped San Antonio police catch up with a man who they believe was involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash. An arrest warrant affidavit says an anonymous tipster identified him as the driver involved in the crash Nov. 19 in the 1200 block of Bandera Road. It says at some point after the crash, the tipster called police offering them Rodriguez’s name. However, it says police do not believe the relative knew anything about the deadly crash. Just prior to Rodriguez’s arrest, homicide investigators learned he was planning to leave the country, the affidavit says.

HELOTES, Texas – A San Antonio mother is hoping and praying the hit-and-run driver responsible for killing her son in Helotes will turn themselves in. Balerie Sanchez said her son, Jerry Sanchez, 36, had many plans in his life. He was always worried about me and was actually working hard to get his own place, and he said he wanted me to move in with him. “He was trying very hard to change his life so he would be able to see his kids,” Sanchez said. “I broke down because when I got there, there was only one officer, and I told him I thought the person found was my son,” Sanchez said.

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio mother is feeling the weight of the actions of a hit-and-run driver who left her son with life-threatening consequences. San Antonio police have identified the driver who hit him as Antonio Coronado, 20. According to a police report, Coronado panicked after hitting Nick Ruiz, kept driving, and called his mother. “He is uninsured, and I have no financial means to handle his bills,” Ida Ruiz said. Ida Ruiz hopes her son’s story servers as a lesson to other drivers, especially during the holiday months.

According to police, the car was headed northbound when it struck a woman in her 60s who was walking in a crosswalk with the right-of-way. Police said witnesses told them the driver appeared to have been trying to rush through a yellow light. The woman was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center for her injuries. Police said the driver of the car did not not stop following the collision.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the 200 block of North Weidner Road, not far from Randolph Boulevard and Interstate 35 on the city’s Northeast Side. According to police, the man had gotten out of his car by the access road of I-35 when he was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene. Police said the man ended up down the street from his car and is now in serious condition. The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department, and EMS all answered the call.

The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. in the 10300 block of Sahara Drive, not far from San Pedro Avenue on the city’s North Side. According to police, the two men, both in their 20s, were loading plumbing equipment into their vehicle outside an apartment complex when a gray SUV traveling at a high rate of speed struck the pair and sped off. Police said the SUV turned a corner from San Pedro Avenue onto Sahara Drive. When it hit the men, the driver did not stop to render aid or give help of any kind, police said.

SAN ANTONIO – A pedestrian was hospitalized after a hit-and-run while trying to cross a street on the city’s Southwest Side, San Antonio police say. The hit-and-run happened near South Zarzamora and Southwest Military on Friday night. Police say the pedestrian was using a crosswalk and a driver in a green Toyota Tundra traveling down Zarzamora hit them and kept going. Officers tracked down the Tundra using a description given to them by witnesses and stopped the vehicle near Cavalier and Zarzamora. The pedestrian was transported to University Hospital in serious condition but was stable, officials said.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are searching for the driver of a stolen truck who fled the scene after being involved in two wrecks. Officers said the driver of the truck crashed into a concrete wall outside a home near the intersection of Benrus Boulevard and Rita Avenue on the West Side Thursday morning. The driver bailed from the truck and ran from the scene, police said. Just before that accident, around 7:30 a.m., police said the truck hit a car two blocks away, at Benrus and Bartmer Avenue. The driver fled that scene before crashing into the concrete wall, police said.

SAN MARCOS – San Marcos police reported Tuesday that they have arrested a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run that happened June 1. SMPD credits the apprehension of Brenda Vasquez Hurtado, 41, to the volume of citizen tips related to the deadly crash. Hurtado surrendered herself to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Monday after Justice of the Peace Magie Moreno issued an arrest warrant. Hurtado was identified as the driver of a Ford Explorer Sport Trac that struck Dwight Garrett Thomas on Post Road on June 1.
